As far as I know, there is no option to select which type of "English" is being used when adding a song or publishing a translation... And, isn't British a type of English, afterall?
(Unless you were only commenting to let other users know this is specifically written in British English?)

The purpose of a translation is to help people understand the meaning of the original text. Use of slang words that only are used in Britain is not helpful for someone not familiar with British slang - the majority of English speakers worldwide fall in this category.

Don't agree. It depends on which type of translation a translator prefer to do. If the meaning is ambiguous in the original text, author can decide to keep it that way. For this case, if the word in the source text is a slang, translator can keep it in the target text. Doesn't matter where slang is originated, non-native English speakers need to look up words in any case. I'd be happy to learn a new slang for instance.

Well, yes. But I disagree about your point of view on British English.
Nowhere is it stated that British English and its slang should not be used or should be by default commented. It's like if someone who knows British English got offended and requested edits every time a translation in American English (labeled "English") was posted. That'd be plain ridiculous. The English language has different accents and dialects - why bother trying to uniformize it? That's just killing the diversity for the sake of "convenience" (or whatever else you'd like to call it)!

I second that. People are free to write in whichever variations they want/feel comfortable/know how to use as long as it doesn't break any grammar rules. I myself have never tried to translate into European Portuguese, but there are some users who add translations in it. So we have 2 Portuguese translations of a few songs around. It's not an issue.
However, the differences between AmE and BrE, afaik, are so small, that it really makes it unnecessary to split the English category into American and Brittish.
EDIT: People can actually use the 'comments' section to indicate which variety of the language they're using, but it's not mandatory. I put a warning in my profile, though.
This is not an English translation, it's a British translation.
