Funeral procession
The farmer ere morning went alone
early it was, rain was falling.
Eager he was to look after the pollards,
then herd the livestock at Flo.
Past Flatadn he had come,
a frightening flock of folk he saw.
Eventually, as he understood what was afoot,
he held his chest and prayed to our Lord.
A funeral procession was on its way.
The farmer wondered who the procession was for,
as it approached, he got the answer.
In the coffin lay his neighbour's father,
wax-like in death, well groomed, dead he was.
The farmer kept silent about this gruesome incident,
was death really coming for his neighbour's father?
Two nights passed before the farmer got the answer,
by nightfall death collected his neighbour's father.
The vision was true. The father was dead.

I have taken some artistic liberty in order to convey the archaic feel of the original lyrics. I have also tried to keep the meaning of each translated line the same as the Norwegian original, to enable line-by-line comparison.
The title could formally be translated as I have done, but its literal meaning is "corpse" + "burden", ie. "The burden/carrying of a corpse".
