English translation

The following translation has been the long process of trying to convert what we know of the original lyrics into English the best we can. This translation does not belong to me but instead has been a collaborative effort between various individuals across the internet (largely YouTube.)

The following message below is taken from the pinned comment of the video which this translation was wider spread from (also the linked source of this English translation.)

"Just to provide some details for anyone who doesn't know, this is not a Democratic Kampuchea song. This is a remix of a Sinn Sisamuth song from long before the Khmer Rouge [original song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RmjadEu8zvM ], the version in the video here was sung by Darkie, a northwestern Cambodian singer. It was found in a cassette collection in the U.S. at some point in the early 2000s and was compiled into the Cambodian Cassette Archives Volume 1. I found a video of the song last year with the Czech and English lyrics

, but some Cambodians said they were fake. I tried looking for the real lyrics, but it was a wild goose chase and I could not find them anywhere. No translators were able to understand it because it was in the Surin dialect of Khmer. The credit for these lyrics should go to Manakum who roughly transcribed the lyrics from a very difficult dialect. Eventually, S Natzach uploaded the real lyrics a few days later in their video: [ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6NBEdwp7KOM ] Now we finally have the real lyrics circulating after more than a year of searching and transcribing. I know others were searching too, but we got there first (: But anyways, if you're reading this, that's where these lyrics came from, it looks like the translation is getting better. By the way, it's "hare" meaning the animal not "hair", but thanks anyway for uploading this, too bad it isn't about Pol Pot, but still there's quite a lot of history behind the real lyrics as well. lol."
