Based on Wikipedia, using the German version of Mary Magdalene (a biblical figure) was Hubert Kemmler's idea and came up when a name with seven syllables was needed for the chorus. Only the German version of the name would suffice.
Kemmler is the guy providing the backing vocal on this recording and he also sings in numbers of Sandra's subsequent songs.
I'm not gay, but I like him more than Sandra 😁❤
