Espera

Espera...
Não é chegado o momento da partida,
da hora triste que separa nossas vidas,
do adeus que deixa uma tola despedida.

Espera...
Ainda resta em minhas mãos a primavera
para cobrir-te de carinhos e quimeras
e uma vida que reclama essa entrega.

Espera um pouco, um pouquinho mais
para levar-te todo o meu amor.
Espera um pouco, um pouquinho mais...
Senão eu morrerei de dor...

Espera...

Translation

Wait

Wait...
It’s still not the moment of departure,
of the sad hour that separates our lives,
of a goodbye words of a foolish farewell.

Wait...
In my hands still remains the youth,
to cover you up with caresses and illusions,
and a life that calls for this surrender of love.

Wait for a while, a bit longer,
so I can bring you all my love.
Wait for a while, a bit longer...
or I will die of pain...

Wait...
I offer you many nights for loving you.
I still have my life to give you.
When we part, it's my soul that gets broken apart.

Wait...
If you ever went away, what would happen to my life?
Even if you ever lied to me, I would believe you anyway.
Even if you didn't love me, I would love you!

Wait for a while, a bit longer,
so I can bring you all my love.
Wait for a while, a bit longer...
or I will die of pain...

Hi, Adelfina, may I suggest some variants:

[1] ... and a life that calls for this surrender of love

[2] Wait for a while, a bit longer,
So I can bring you all my love.

[3] When we part, it's my soul that gets broken apart

I also think it's OK to use simple past on this couplet's first line

If you (ever) went away, what would happen to my life?
If you (ever) lied to me, I would believe you anyway
If you didn't love me, I would love you

Great thanks Ismael!

The thing is I have never even tried to learn Portuguese. I’ve been learning Spanish on my own for over one year. What I have done was possible because I’ve found that both these languages are not very far from each other. After reading some translations between Spanish and Portuguese I got a bit feeling for Portuguese (I believe). I find it usually not difficult to guess the meaning, but only when reading a text. Spoken language is a different thing - the differences in pronunciation make things much more complicated.

It was my second attempt to translate from Portuguese - within a pretty short time, anyway - next translation still to come, I hope very soon.

Of course I used also some online dictionaries, though these that I have found were not the best in my opinion. Mistakes were unavoidable, but I hope I don’t have to be ashamed for my work.

I would like to learn Portuguese some time later. For the time I concentrate on Spanish, but from time to time I will continue with Portuguese.

I changed a bit what you suggested, but only slightly. I hope you’ll accept these changes.

Thanks again for your help :) !
