To me, what people tend to miss about this song is the poets desperation to console Beirut. " You are (still) Beirut to me" the poet says, despite the siege and destruction, despite Beirut's anxiety over who she was, how beautiful she used to be, to the poet, Beirut is still Beirut, the city they loved and cherished.
