When I Turn Around, I See Yokohama

Is this really the end of my dream?
Will everything returns to blank slate again?
If it can help my wish come true, I'll sacrifice my every being...
...just so I can follow you
Even with my eyes closed, all I see is you
As if trying to retract our breakup talk,
...I hug you once again until we're drenched in sweat
Like in the movie,
...love is always paradoxical
The more I chase you, the more you change your mind & retreat
When I turn around, I see Yokohama
My lips miss yours
Behind me there's Yokohama
You're leaving me and this city behind

The ship heading overseas is departing the port
I'm watching it leaving alone from the hotel lobby
Come back here
I don't need any memories (*what i want is you)
This is so heart breaking
Our meeting is a mischievous play of fate
Don't let it end here
Just having you by my side,
...there'll only be bright days awaiting...
...for the rest of my life
The raindrops start hitting the window
Maybe you're also one of those guys who can't settle down
When I turn around, I see Yokohama
The only thing missing is you
Looking around, I see Yokohama
I miss your embrace

When I turn around, I see Yokohama
My lips miss yours
Behind me there's Yokohama
You're leaving me and this city behind

Marcia (born: February 14, 1969), real name: Marcia Kazue Nishie, was an idol(?) / singer debuted in very late 1980s.

Marcia was a third generation Japanese-Brazilian born and grew up in Brazil. In 1985, she won a runner-up in a song contest by TBS (tv network that owned "The Best Ten") held in Brazil. There she met Inomata's other apprentice: Sakamoto FuyumiMarcia who couldn't speak Japanese and Fuyumi who spoke in her hometown dialect somehow became close friends. They were each other first friend they made in Tokyo. Fuyumi who was 2 years older was also like an older sister figure.

Sakamoto Fuyumi

Sakamoto Fuyumi was born on March 30, 1967. She was named "Fuyumi" (*fuyu = winter) because her skin was "as fair as snow" when she was born. When in junior high school, she wrote that her dream was to become an enka singer. At that time, she was a fan of Ishikawa Sayuri (early 1970s idol turned enka legend, the singer with the most appearances in Kohaku Uta Gassen history). After graduated from high school in 1985, she worked as accountant in a restaurant, then moved to work at a pickled plum company, all while attending karaoke class to to practice singing with the aim of becoming an enka singer.

In 1986, she won a singing competition on TV. Inomata Kosho, a composer and lyricist who was one of the judges in that tv program, recommended her to move to Tokyo and took her as apprentice. There she met another apprentice: Marcia Kazue Nishie who just came from Brazil. Marcia who couldn't speak Japanese and Fuyumi who spoke in her hometown dialect became the first friend each other made in Tokyo and later would become best friends.

Her dream came true, Sakamoto Fuyumi debuted as enka singer on March 4, 1987.

^ it confirms that this show wasn't exclusive only for "idols", enka singer could also sing here.

After the released of her debut song, she told her master "this song won't sell", but instead it became a hit and sold a total of 235,000 copies per Oricon data (*or 800,000+ accumulated sales according to non Oricon source). That song won her numerous newcomer awards including from "Japan Record Awards". That song also brought her to Kohaku Uta Gassen 1988 and later became a regular Kohaku performer.

In her career, she has released a total of 54 singles and 14 original albums. There's no information about her total sales (all singles + all albums). Incomplete data shows her singles from 1987 to 1997 accumulated sales of 1,986,000 copies but that was only the sales of her 19 singles, nowhere nearly show her actual sales since she still has another 35 singles, 2 duet singles, 17 cover albums, 2 live albums, 44 "best of" albums, etc. But there's a clue. Sakamoto Fuyumi has performed in Kohaku Uta Gassen for a total of 35 times!! , almost every single year from 1988 to 2023 (*and that's not the end. She will probably still perform in Kohaku 2024 and on~).
