I think it should be "Tan" not "cinnamon". We say in English, You're skin tan doesn't fade!" as wow, you have such a good skin tan!
"But don't let the black of your eyes die
And let your skin tan (tanned skin) stay the same."
Title: "Skin Tan" or "Tanned Skin"

I really appreciate your humble ( :) ) opinion! I too thought of "tan"/"tanned" or "dark" in the first place. To be honest, "tawny" never crossed my mind! I really see you point --actually a good one, thank you-- but I preferred "cinnamon" as I wanted to keep the ... "essence" of the song and translate faithfully the simile.
I think it's a nice choice because it both depicts the colour of her skin and at the same time conveys an exotic tone to the reader! ;)

Hi¡ I am from mexico, and I do prefer "Cinnamon" over tan, cuz is more faithful to the song and to the author. :). (and is more poetic and romantic ;))

Well, you know, not all the mexicans or the cubans have the same color of skin. There are a lot with white skin :D. And I do think that your comment was a little bit racist :)

Yes, it's starting to get kind of complicated!
The black eyes and tan skin reminds me of a Duke Ellington composition called "Black and Tan Fantasy" but he was talking about a woman from Harlem, New York....so let's leave race out of it :)

I couldn't agree more, an excellent translation, it is helping me to learn Spanish and I enjoy the songs as well. My parents wouldn't speak Spanish in the home so I had to learn it in school but I still need to work at it. I'll just keep singing these beautiful songs and eventually I will, with your help, understand the meaning as well.
