Salon Sahti

Siittä juoksi Hiien Hirwi,
Poropetra poimetteli,
Pohjan poikien perille,
Lapin lasten tantereille

Sorkanpiällä soukahautti,
potkasi koan ovea
Joihe jookkit jalot poies,
siemasihe sahit sorjat

Ihte lausu Hiien Hirwi,
Poropetra perusteli,
kaljasta katajasesta,
olosesta otrakuusen:

"Salon sahti suuremmoine,
mehtän mesi meutovaine,
sulajavi suonissani,
kiemartavi kehossani,"

Siittä möyri Mesikämmen,
korven kolli Källeröine,
Pohjan poikien perille,
Lapin lasten tantereille

Käpälällä kiännähytti,
räpäsi koan ovea
Joihe jookkit jalot poies,
siemasihe sahit sorjat

Ihte lausu Mesikämmen,
korven kolli karjahteli,
kaljasta katajasesta,
olosesta otrakuusen:

"Salon sahti suuremmoine,
mehtän mesi meutovaine,
sulajavi suonissani,
kiemartavi kehossani,"

Siittä juopu Hiien Hirwi,
Poropetra pöllämysty
Siittä juopu Mesikämmen,
korven kolli kännitteli

Mittelivät mahtejansa,
verestivät voimiansa:
joivat jookkit kilvan kulkkuun,
siemasivat sahit sorjat

Ihte lausu Wiinamoine,
viiksitukka viisasteli,
kaljasta katajasesta,
olosesta otrakuusen:

"Salon sahti suuremmoine,
mehtän mesi meutovaine,
vie voiton kaikista meistä,
eläimistä ja ihmisistä

Wiina vahvin voitehista,
salon kalja salvosista,
elähyttää elottomanki,
ilahuttaa ilottomanki!"

Sahti of the Wildwoods

The Elk of Hiisi1 ran past
Reindeer-Petra sprinted
To the remote lands of the northern boys
To the terrains of Lapland's children

He struck with his hoof
He kicked the door of the hut
He drunk the noble drink
He sipped the sweet sahti2

Then the Elk of Hiisi spoke
Reindeer-Petra talked
About the ale with juniper flavour
The feeling of the barley-spruce

"The great sahti of the wildwoods
The lovely honey of the forest
It melts in my veins
It squirms in my body"

Then the Mead-Paw3 came crawling
Källeröine, the tomcat of the woods
To the remote lands of the northern boys
To the terrains of Lapland's children

With his paw he turned
He opened the door of the hut
He drunk the noble drink
He sipped the sweet sahti

Then the Mead-Paw spoke
The tomcat of the woods roared
About the ale with juniper flavour
The feeling of the barley-spruce

"The great sahti of the wildwoods
The lovely honey of the forest
It melts in my veins
It squirms in my body"

The Elk of Hiisi got drunk
The Reindeer-Petra was befuddled
The Mead-Paw got drunk
The tomcat of the woods went on a bender

They showed their might
They gathered their strength
Throughout the fight they drank
They sipped the sweet sahti

Then Väinämöinen spoke4
The moustache-hair talked wisely
About the ale with juniper flavour
The feeling of the barley-spruce

"The great sahti of the wildwoods
The lovely honey of the forest
It melts in my veins
It squirms in my body

Alcohol is the oldest medicine
The wildwood ale is the oldest salve
It can revive the dead
It can make the unhappy joyful"
