"I was like a child in any refugee camp. Do you see the camp children behind you? Just like them. Every child has ambition to become something. But when we got older, we were surprised that we couldn't achieve our ambition. Now we are trying to change that for the others. People think we're abnormal people. We are very simple and normal people. We are fighting for our right, nothing more. We are ordinary people, we dreamed of having a family and a home, but circumstances did not allow us. We lived in an environment that made us fighters."

The parents of the dead fighter Abed Budayrat once said:
"He was just a child from the refugee camp. He experienced the previous Intifada. He saw Israeli tanks and invasions, he lived through it all during the Second Intifada. During this uprising, he got involved. People were forced to arm themselves and resist. We want to defend our camp. To defend our homes and dignity. It is a difficult feeling. We raise our children, and watch them grow day by day. Then Israel comes and finishes them off. Within a moment, they end a human life with a missile or bullets."
"At 13, he was witnessing raids. Just like all children. He was throwing stones with his friends at the Israeli tanks and jeeps. He was shot in his legs many times. He was hospitalised for it maybe three times. When he grew up, he took up arms. He started resisting."
