A few comments:
1. He is talking about 'loving freely'. You say "strings", I would say "ties".
2. In the third verse, "es que no te va", that "te" stands for "it to you", therefore, he is saying something like, "things are not going the way you thought".
3. At the end, "mal amada te tiene el que hoy...", again the "te" = badly loved "he has you". I would say, "badly loved you are by the one who today lives with you".
