My old man

In his old worn-out overcoat,
Summer, winter, He would go out
In the chilly hours of dawn,
old man.

There was just one Sunday a week
The rest of the days, he would work
To make money by any means
old man.

In summer, we went to the sea,
You see, it wasn't misery.
It wasn't paradise either
It's true, too Bad...

In his old worn-out overcoat
For countless endless years he took
The same suburb bus to his home
old man

At night, when he got back from work
He would sit down without a word,
He belonged to the silent type
old man.

Our Sundays were monotonous.
We never received any guest.
He wasn't unhappy for that
I Guess, old man.

In his old worn-out overcoat
On paydays, when he got back home
You could hear him shout moan and groan
old man.

To us, it was the same old song
The rich, bosses : the list was long,
Left wing, right wing, and even God,
With my old man.

At home, there was no tv-set,
It's outside that I tried to get,
For a few hours, some escape,
You know, how dumb !

To think that I spent years and years
Near him , not giving him a glance,
The two of us barely opened
Their eyes.

I might have, no need to be wise,
Walked with him for a little while,
It might have made him happier,
My old man.

But when you are only fifteen,
You don't have a Heart that is Big
Enough to hold all of these things,
You see...

And now that he's gone far, has left,
Thinking on this, I tell myself:
How I wish he were here by my side,
Dad....
