Mother
A field of wildflowers , in the flower’s morning dew
The nightingale sings a whistle - birch sap - a sip
Listen to the entirety of the silence - down a path into a dense forest
Talk to the birch tree about him, and about love
Mother earth, white birch-tree
For me, Holy Rus, for others, it's colder*
How many more years do I have, I ask the cuckoo**
Read the maiden’s love on the chamomile ***
Icy spring water, in the combs of fresh honey
In pure field, stars flood the dark night in the sky
Mother earth, white birch-tree
For me, Holy Rus, for others, it's colder.

Translations of "Матушка (Matushka)"
English #1, #2
Comments

Конечно, я знаю. Но слово использовано "Матушка", а не "Родина". Я перевожу дословно.
Russia is waging a disgraceful war on Ukraine. Stand With Ukraine!
* Literally means "a splinter" - in this context, meaning "pain in the ass". Basically - she is saying, Russia is my home, for me it blooms, for everybody else, Russia is like a thorn in their side.
** A Russian superstition about the number of "koos" a Kukushka makes is the number of years you have left to live.
*** There's a Russian superstition about using chamomile to predict someone's love future. Picking the pettles off, ("he loves me, he loves me not"). In Russia, the chamomile (ромашка) is particular to this.
