لما تلاقينا

ولمّا تلاقينا على سفح رامة
وجدت بنان العامرية أحمرا
 
فقلت: خضبت الكف على فراقنا؟
قالت: معاذ الله ذلك ما جرى !!!
 
ولكنني لما رأيتك راحلاً
بكيت دماً حتى بللت به الثرى
 
مسحت بأطراف البنان مدامعي
فصار خضاباً في اليدين كما ترى
 
ولمّا تلاقينا على سفح رامة
وجدت بنان العامرية أحمرا
 
فقلت: خضبت الكف على فراقنا؟

Translation

When we met

When we met on the top of Rama 1
I found Al-Amiriya (Layla) colored her fingers in red 2
 
So I asked: Did you color your hand in celebration of our separation?
She replied: No, how could you think of that?
 
It's just that when I saw you leaving (me)
I teared blood until the sand got wet
 
Then I wiped off my tears with my fingers
So it looks now like if I colored them with Henna

  • 2. Meaning she colored her hands with Henna which was common in the Arabian Peninsula to do so in celebrations the way they do it today in India and some Arabian countries
