I interpreted this as: "It's no use, evidently, not to close my heavy eyelids and reminisce".
I'm very certain that the first verb "не сомкнуть" is not connected to the verb "не стоит". It isn't "И не сомкнуть не стоит, и вспоминать не стоит", it's "И не сомкнуть; и вспоминать не стоит". "Не сомкнуть" on it's own simply means "unable to close". Although my translation of the sentence can perhaps be phrased better... I will try to come up with a better one.
Since you are a native Russian speaker your reading is probably correct. I think the translation is fine, if that is the sense of the lines. Thanks for the explanation.
