En regardant le ciel, pensif, je m'interroge :
Que ne suis-je faucon, que ne puis-je voler,
Pourquoi ne m'as-tu pas, mon Dieu, donné des ailes ?
Je quitterais la terre, et monterais aux cieux,
Au-delà des nuées, bien au-delà du monde,
En quête de mon sort, d'un soutien à ma peine,
Quémander la tendresse au soleil, aux étoiles
Et puis me dévoiler dans leur claire lumière
Et chercher mon destin...

This wonderful song is actually the first lines of the poem "Nedoli" written by the Ukrainian poet M.Petrenko (aprox. 1842) There are a few versions of the song. The one in here is sung by the greatest Ukrainian opera tenor Ivan Kozlovsky. I"ve failed to find the exact version he's singing so I took the liberty to transcribe the last two lines as they go in the song. Pavel Popovich, the first Ukranian austronaut, sang this song onboard his spaceship Vostok-4
