Don Juan

I'm not a Don Juan
You already know that I love you
You won't love it, my love
When I play, I play to win

When you move without taking your eyes off of mine
I think up stories on your mouth
If you have to sulk, do it another night
When I play, I don't leave anything to chance

It can begin like this
As for it being endless, you know one never knows
Our love will last for a long time
Let's face this sad fact

I forget everything when you're dancing
It's clear, I've lost my patience
Come on, laï-laï-laï-laï-laï, laï-laï-laï
I forget everything when you're dancing
It's clear, I've lost my patience
Come on, laï-laï-laï-laï-laï, laï-laï-laï

You're not right, I'm not wrong
If I tell you 'no', you won't be alright with it
You're still flying in my heart
I promise that I'll stay strong

I confess that I've been here before
They'd already taken everything back from me before
If they told me to, I could have let everything go
More from you
We could have gone there, you and me

It can begin like this
As for it being endless, you know one never knows
Our love will last for a long time
Let's face this sad fact

I forget everything when you're dancing
It's clear, I've lost my patience
Come on, laï-laï-laï-laï-laï, laï-laï-laï
I forget everything when you're dancing
It's clear, I've lost my patience
Come on, laï-laï-laï-laï-laï, laï-laï-laï
Come on, laï-laï-laï-laï-laï, laï-laï-laï (Oh, yes)

Come on and dance (Olé, let's go)
(Olé, let's go, olé)
Come on and dance (Olé, let's go)
(Olé, let's go)

I forget everything when you're dancing
It's clear, I've lost my patience
Come on, laï-laï-laï-laï-laï, laï-laï-laï
I forget everything when you're dancing
It's clear, I've lost my patience
Come on, laï-laï-laï-laï-laï, laï-laï-laï

sans lâcher mon regard -> rather "without taking your eyes off mine"

Si tu boudes, ne le fais pas ce soir -> "sulk if you must, but not tonight" or something ?

Mais jamais finir, tu sais, on sait pas -> Aaaah! My ears!
"as for (it) never ending, you know, one never knows"

Le feu s'éteint pas comme ça / On va pas mentir, on le sait déjà -> He basically says "Our love should last a long while. Let's face this sad fact" :)

J'avoue, j'avais déjà donné -> I confess I had been here before
On m'avait déjà tout repris -> they/someone had already taken everything back from me
Je pourrais tout abandonner si on me l'avait dit -> If they/someone had told me to, I could let go of everything
Encore, encore de toi -> more/again from you

Honest, I don't know what any of that means!

Thanks for the comments! I have to admit, I was doubting a lot of the lines in this one

I don't want to be a killjoy, but sometimes this guy doesn't really speak French :)

And btw. the only time I ever saw this "conquistador / j'tadore" rhyme was in a masterpiece of funny nonsense from the 80's, sung by arguably the best French rock performer of all times.

No wonder nobody chanced a translation, it's mission: impossible. Too bad, the song is actually very funny, full of amusing nonsense, absurd puns and risqué allusions.

Anyway, it is a terrible rhyme. "conquistador" does not mean "'Don Juan" in any way, it was just used once for a lame pun in this one silly song. It is very likely to make at least a few elderly or middle-aged people chuckle.

Sounds like a challenge, Pierre? :) I'll think about it.

That could be great fun, but it would probably be more footnotes than lyrics.
And I'm sorry about all this badmouthing of poor Kendji, but honestly, picking "conquistador" for a title and beginning with this convoluted rhyme is a king size sarcasm magnet. :D
