Winner of the 2025 UMK contest and Finland's entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2025.

The Finnish pronouns (hän, se) in this song don't have gender, so I've translated both as "he" and "she" since Erika Vikman identifies as bisexual.

Since this blew up, a free Finnish grammar lesson on the phrase "loveen lankeaa":

Directly, this means "(he/she/they (sing.)) fall into lovi/love". The most obvious translation would probably be "fall into a trance".

The verb, "langeta" (inflected as "lankeaa"), carries much of the same meaning as "fall" in English - to move downwards, particularly with a sense of force, or compulsion, or falling in a negative sense:

Valo lankeaa - Light falls.
Pimeys lankesi - Darkness fell.
Hiljaisuus lankeaa - Silence falls.
Lankean häneen - I'm falling for him/her.
He lankesivat ansaan - They fell into the trap.
Hän lankesi polvilleen ja rukoili - He fell to his knees and prayed.
Syntiinlankeemus - the fall of Adam (biblical)

The noun, "lovi" (inflected as "loveen", "movement into lovi") has several meanings:

From proto-Finnic *lovi, "lovi" refers to a notch, cleft, slot, or hole. It can carry a negative connotation, like "abyss" or "pit", but not always.
- budjetissa lovi - a hole in the budget
- lovi leuassa - a cleft chin
- lovi - vagina, pussy (slang)
As extension from this base meaning, "lovi" is also a supernatural place in Finnish mythology, suggested to be the "cleft" or "border" between the real world and underworld. It was said that shamans could enter a trance to visit "lovi", hence "langeta loveen" meaning "fall into a trance"

Additionally, "loveen" could also be interpreted as a conjugation of the English word "love", used as a loanword in Finnish. This interpretation appears on the official UMK translation.
