Vorbei ging’s an dem Pausenhof,

da spielte man und rang,

vorbei an Feldern reifen Korns,

am Sonnenuntergang,

vielmehr zog er vorbei.

Der Tau kam nieder schaudernd kühl,

nur aus Chiffon war mein Gewand,

mein Umhang nur aus Tüll.

Dann Halt vor einem Haus, wie ein

gewölbter Erdenschoß;

kaum sichtbar war sein Dach und sein

Ich komme von der Musik. Der Quelltext meiner ursprünglichen Übersetzung wurde vielfach vertont, allerdings ohne die vierte Strophe. Daher fehlte sie in meinem bisherigen Ansatz.

Carmen Cologne eröffnete mir die Sicht, dass nicht das lyrische Ich höflich ist, sondern der Tod.
