Voce di donna o d'angelo

Voce di donna o d'angelo
Le mie catene ha sciolto;
Mi vietan le mie tenebre
Di quella santa il volto...
Pure da me non pàrtasi
Senza un pietoso don!
A te questo rosario
Che le preghiere aduna.
Io te lo porgo:
Accettalo!
Ti porterà fortuna;
Sulla tua testa
Vigili la mia benedizion.

Translation

A Woman's or An Angel's Voice

A woman's or an angel's voice
Has broken my chains;
My shadows are veiling
That saintly woman's face from me...
And yet, do not leave me
Without a pious gift!
This rosary is for you,
For it gathers all prayers.
I am presenting it to you:
Do accept it!
It shall bring you luck;
May my blessing be
Upon you! 1

  • 1. Literally, this would be translated as 'May my blessing watch over your head', but I have chosen to translate it as "be upon you" because in English, 'be upon your head' has a very negative meaning that suggests that punishment or retribution shall come to someone because of their actions. Moreover, the transliteration doesn't make much sense in English - I do realize that I could have translated this as 'May my blessing accompany/protect you', but that would deviate too much from the original text, even if the meaning conveyed is similar.
