Lesson 2

Hey boy

Lesson 2

Hey boy

Lesson 2

Hey boy

Lesson 2

Hey boy

Lesson Number Two

Come. If you keep being slow like that, I..
...will just go out with someone else
I like the dangerous vibe you exude
Hey boy, look at me...

Immature, half-ripe yet psychologically mature beyond my age
Fashionable, curious, playful
Sounds good, isn't it? I'm good at presenting myself too
Sounds good? A top-tier girl you can imagine to fall in love with

Let tonight marks our anniversary
And the one who made me feel this way,
...whose fault do you think it is?
Lesson number two:

If you ever turn away from me,
...I'll shout some profanity at you
Hey boy, now where's your answer?

Mischievous, bold and always put on a strong front,
Cheerful and actually sincere
Doesn't this type of girl sound interesting?
...
You won't ever feel bored with me. Interesting right?

Let tonight marks our anniversary
And the one who made me feel this way,
...whose fault do you think it is?
Lesson number two...

You finally asked me out and I...
...suddenly felt my heart pounding
Hey boy, come at me gently

Let tonight marks our anniversary
And the one who made me feel this way,
...whose fault do you think it is?
Lesson number two...

Come. If you keep being slow like that, I..
...will just go out with someone else
Hey boy, look at me...

Honda Risa (born: May 27, 1971), real name: Honda Kazue, was an idol in late 1980s to early 1990s. In summer 1986, she participated in "Pocari Sweat Image Girl Contest 1986" (*which was won by Moritaka Chisato) and got scouted by an agency. Risa made her debut as idol singer in July 1, 1988 ( class'88 idols, debuted at the same year as Nishida Hikaru, Wink, Tanaka Ritsuko, etc).

As a singer, she has released a total of 7 singles and 1 original albums. The highest position her song ever reached in Oricon chart was #31. Her total sales are about 44,120 copies. As for her acting career, she has appeared in 22 dramas (1988-2013) and 3 movies (1988-1991). She was also a regular cast in some variety shows. Honda Risa was also popular as gravure idol.

I was a bit surprised about Risas total sales, they are lower than what I expected to be honest (;´∀`). But still this shows that total sales don't equal to popularity, since imo shes decently mid-level, I mean she got to appear on Yoru no Hit Studio and I'd say she was known (a jump from 92 to 31 is a big one afterall)

Also, she was in Hana no Asuka-gumi with Natsuki and some other idols! (I think she played a villain?), so I guess her jump in sales could also be attributed to that

Ah, and before I forget, in the pool performance that you posted, when they jump into the pool before the music starts, you can see two girls! Those two girls were an idol duo, PumpKin! And online theres also their performance that day! (That being one for their second single, Taiyou no Halation). PumpKin had catchy songs, energetic choreographys, and the energy to be top idols, but sadly they debuted in 1987 and were soon plowed under by Wink. Still, online I saw someone say that Pledge of Heart and Taiyou no Halation (1 & 2 singles) were "small hits", and seeing the persons definition of small/modest hit, they could have ranged from hitting the top 10 to the song arriving in the top 20, 30 at most. Shame that they didn't achieve further success, I really like their songs!

Yeah, her song sales aren't much but she seems to appear in quite some variety shows and comedy program. I believe she was a solid mid level, probably like Ito Miki. (<-- and they were classmates in Horikoshi High School. Onyanko girl: Saito Makiko was her classmate too. Maybe even Nori-P since they're the same age). And according to Nishida HikaruHonda Risa was popular as gravure idol.

I didn't know she was in that series too. Maybe she suited to play as villain. 😅

In Risa vs Risa video?  The girl in green and black swimsuits? So they're PumpKin. I haven't checked their songs yet. 1988-1991 were dominated by Wink, other duo wouldn't have opportunity to grow.

And from those videos, we can see that Watanabe Minayo was still relevant at least for a few years even after Onyanko disbandment.

Yes, in that one! In this video you can see their performance, I dont know if it took place before or after Risas

I'd say that Minayo had a big following, both in and out of Onyanko, apart from Shi-chan she was one of the most popular members (But I do wonder, if Sonoko had continued to promote her songs, would she have also been at the same level? Her sales were the second biggest among Onyanko soloists afterall, if only she didn't stop appearing on programs to break off her idol image TT)

Idols from the second half of 1980s always had those signature ribbons, it's cute. 😆

I think Sonoko was still bigger than Minayo. She was the face of Onyanko, she could be on par with some solo top idols. And personality wise, she was the bridge between different factions in the group. She was well loved in and outside the group. She might still be relevant to the early 1990s if she didn't take the wrong marketing approach.

And Moriguchi Hiroko really was an experienced baradoru, she always brought her energy no matter in what show and what role she played. Her agency would regret it if they ever kicked her out when she was at her lowest point.

Feedeeri☆Feedeeri☆

Yea, in the second half of the 80's ribbons were super popular, even in live performances videos you can see that they were popular between normal girls too, not only idols! And yes, they looked super cute on Chao and Mikarin ヾ(≧▽≦*)o

Its a shame that she took that approach, there are a lot of ways to bridge out of the "idol image", sometimes you don't even have to do anything, just a change of costumes or choreographys can do the trick. I'm sure she could have hit greater heights, especially since it was clear that she was talented TT

Its sad that Hiroko had to beg her agency not to let her go, honestly sometimes I get reminded that agencies can be really shady TT. Picking up idols and trowing them away as soon as they dont have success, making them pay for their living expences (Poor Yukie, thankfuly Ikue Sakakibara helped her settle everything) or even making them pay for their debut expenses, even if the agency spent a lot of money (As far as I know this has happened to Kana, they spent a lot of money for her debut but they didn't use it wisely, so she was forced to retire after her 4th single to pay them back herself, poor Kana ╥﹏╥)

Even when they didn't listen to their artists, like when they wanted to make kazari janai no yo namida wa an album filler, or when they didn't think of releasing Second Love as a single. In the end they became Akinas biggest hits, immagine if she didn't release them TT

Even their (stage) names sound cute. Maybe I should translate their songs someday. lol. I checked their song that you uploaded, seems like their music was kinda similar to BaBe.

On one hand, it's a bussiness. Idols are their investment. They keep pouring money for promotional campaign, etc, but if the idol fails to sell, they need to cut the loss and move their investment to someone else who sells well. All the staffs still need to be paid.

On the other hand, the system itself doesn't look fair. They're celebrities idolized by many people yet they're not much different than normal salary workers. For example: Pink Lady who rocked the late 1970s and casually released million selling songs like it's nothing. According to wikipedia, Pink Lady at their peak were estimated to have made between ¥20 billion and ¥50 billion (and that's 1970s money, imagine how much that's worth now), but most of the money went to their company. The two members were each only being paid salary of ¥300,000 per month (a.k.a being paid peanuts) , then raised to ¥3 million per month (which is still peanuts compared to what they actually made). If even Pink Lady only being paid peanuts, what about much smaller idols.

Feedeeri☆Feedeeri☆

Mhm! I'd say their genre was Europop, similar to BaBe, but from their second single they started to sound differently from BaBe. And yes, Chao and Mikarin sound adorable (and they're just as adorable! At the end of the video that I posted for their songs one of them does dog impression!

Its a sad reality that even top idols were underpayed, but smaller idols were actually in the red financialy. Yukie Kawakami was under Columbia Japan and HoriPro, and even then despite both being big companies she had to pay for her dorm and living expenses. Poor Yukie was in the red at just 15/16 (。•́︿•̀。). If she didnt accidentaly say that she was in the red on a show and if Ikue Sakakibara didnt help, she would have probably gone even further into debt. Its sad, since no teenager deserves that, and since Yukie had a fantastic voice too (She won the Grand price in Star Tanjō!), so it must have been so discouraging to have to pay for your expenses while being away from family on top of your Idol carrer not doing too well ( ≧Д≦). (And even then, her situation was resolved in time, but I'm pretty sure I've heard of idols who had to pay for their expenses at like 15, having to take up multiple part time jobs on top of going to school and to events to promote. They were basically children, they shouldnt have to work day and night just to be able to eat or have a roof on their head (。•́︿•̀。)
