I Love You ... Me Neither (Je t’aime… Moi non plus)

English translation

I Love You ... Me Neither

Versions: #1#2#3#4#5
I love you, I love you
Oh yes I love you!
Not more than I*
Oh my love

As a faltering wave

I go, I go and I come
Inside you*
I go and I come
Inside you
And I hold back

(refrain)

You are the wave, and I, the naked island

You go, you go, and you come
Inside me
You go and you come
Inside me
And I am with you*

(refrain)

As a faltering wave

I go, I go and I come
Inside you
I go and I come
Inside you
And I hold back

You go, you go and you come
Inside me
You go and you come
Inside me
And I am with you

Making love for its own sake**

I go, I go, and I come
Inside you
I go and I come
And I hold back
No! Come! Now!

Author's comments:

*not a literal translation, since the original was idiomatic. This captures the sense of the original, because a literal translation would obscure the meaning. (The asterisk only appears at the first occurrence of the often-repeated phrases.)

**The line translated as "making love for its own sake" literally reads "Physical love is without issue" - 'issue' was a common idiom for children, so a "literal/idiomatic translation" would be "Physical love is childless". It is likely that had it been written in English, it would have read something like I have rendered it.
