Yoshimoto Miyoko, nickname: Micchon, born: March 18, 1969, was a moderately popular idol active in the second half of 1980s.
When she was a kid, she was a fan of late 1970s idol Ishino Mako and aspired to become a singer like her. In the third grade of elementary school, she participated in kids singing / celebrity impersonating competition "Zennihon Senbatsu Chibiko Monomane Uta Gassen". She won the Hiroshima regional round and advanced to the national round held in Tokyo. After the competition, she became famous locally in her hometown. It also changed her from a boyish girl to start to learn to dress up and took lessons in music school. In 1983, while in her third year of junior high school, she applied for the 5th "Fukuoka Music Festival" and made it to the final. She was signed by the record company Teichiku Records which later reccomended her to the big talent agency Gei-ei (*the same agency as Iwasaki Hiromi, Kawai Naoko, Ishikawa Hidemi). She also transfered to Nakano High School (*the highschool that had the second most idol students at that time after Horikoshi High School). She made her debut as idol singer on March 21, 1985 (*debuted the same year as Nakayama Miho, Nanno, Saito Yuki, Honda Minako, Asaka Yui, Onyanko Club, Matsumoto Noriko, etc).
*trivia: At her debut, she was promoted as fellow idol Ishikawa Hidemi's "younger sister". Back then, it wasn't rare to promote new artist using the label of the "younger sister" of some big name artists from the same agency to endorse them.
