Ó malhão
Ó malhão, malhão
Que vida é a tua?
Ó malhão, malhão
Que vida é a tua?
Comer e beber, ó tirim-tim-tim
Passear na rua...
Comer e beber, ó tirim-tim-tim
Passear na rua...
Ó malhão, malhão
Quem te deu as botas?
Ó malhão, malhão
Quem te deu as botas?
Foi o caxeirim, ó tirim-tim-tim
Das perninhas tortas!
Foi o caxeirim, ó tirim-tim-tim
Das perninhas tortas!
Que será de ti?
Com quem vais casar?
Que será de ti?
Com quem vais casar?
Com mulher bem rica, ó tirim-tim-tim
Pra me sustentar!
Com mulher bem rica, ó tirim-tim-tim
Pra me sustentar!
Ó malhão, malhão!
Ó Margaridinha!
Ó malhão, malhão!
Ó Margaridinha!
Eras do teu pai, ó tirim-tim-tim
Agora és minha!
Eras do teu pai, ó tirim-tim-tim
Agora és minha!
Ó malhão, malhão
Quem te deu as meias?
Ó malhão, malhão
Quem te deu as meias?
Foi o caixeirim, ó tirim-tim-tim
Das perninhas feias!
Foi o caixeirim, ó tirim-tim-tim
Das perninhas feias!

Oh, Winnower
Oh winnower, winnower
What kind of life are you leading?
Oh winnower, winnower
What kind of life are you leading?
Just eating and drinking, oh dring-ding-ding
Walking through the roads...
Just eating and drinking, oh dring-ding-ding
Walking through the roads...
Oh winnower, winnower
Who gave you those boots?
Oh winnower, winnower
Who gave you those boots?
It was the shopkeeper, oh dring-ding-ding
Who had crooked legs!
It was the shopkeeper, oh dring-ding-ding
Who had crooked legs!
What will you do in this life?
Who are you going to marry?
What will you do in this life?
Who are you going to marry?
A very wealthy woman, oh dring-ding-ding
So she can support me!
A very wealthy woman, oh dring-ding-ding
So she can support me!
Oh winnower, winnower!
Oh, little Margaret!
Oh winnower, winnower!
Oh, little Margaret!
You belonged to your father, oh dring-ding-ding
But now you're mine!
You belonged to your father, oh dring-ding-ding
But now you're mine!
Oh winnower, winnower
Who gave you those stockings?
Oh winnower, winnower
Who gave you those stockings?
It was the shopkeeper, oh dring-ding-ding
With the ugly legs!
It was the shopkeeper, oh dring-ding-ding
With the ugly legs!

The "malhão" is a type folk dance of which there are many variants in Central and Northern Portugal. The word malhão could be literally translated as "mallet", but in this context it would be better to translate it as winnower (a person who winnows the grain), which owes to the dance's rural origins as a form of celebration at the high point of the agricultural calendar.
