When I was young some of my friends were very strong Communists. I was not. We were not in good relations thus.
I learned Spanish alone. I found this record and learned this song. As Inti Illimani came to our town, I went also because of this song. I was not in the best of relation with my Communist friend. I sat near him and as Inti Illimani sang this song: I sang along and knew all the words. My Communist friend held his fist high (I did not), but could not sing a word. I still remember this moment of linguistic victory!
No I did not! He was envy and sour and I did nothing to ease his mind! I could still sing this song. I got in the backstage in the concert because of my Spanish skills. He did not!! Later I got a Christmas card from Inti illimani as I sent them photos. The communist one got to hear this.
The song, well, originally it was a communist. Now it becomes the song of resistance against both left or right-wing dictatorships in the world, against both the communist dictatorships, or junta.
Now I want to learn more from Spanish. It's awesome!
it is a humanist song. This song speak about life and how fair it should be.
So stop all the bullshit about "communism" here! The killers are people like Pinochet, Nixon, Franco, Bush, Piñera and the Chicago Boys, Macron, Trump ...
And yes learn languages and cultures before telling things that you learnt through bad propaganda!
I would refer to the Allende's early Presidency, though I admit he was far from communist of course. But communists used to praise him so much. Much like a cultural obsession (my country is a communist-ruled).
Hopefully it will remain a song for people, not for political purpose.
