Yes, it is a popular song for Valentine's day.

I don't know much about real Christian Valentine's day.
But Japanese people who are not Christian turned 14th of February into Chocolate and lovers day after WWII.
I think Japanese people did not celebrate Valentine's day before the war.
I hope Christian people do not feel bad about Japanese people turned Valentine's day into non religious chocolate day.

Well, I think in modern days most people celebrate Valentine's day as holiday and won't care too much about its religious history.

It started with the honoring of a couple of Christian martyrs of the 3rd century. The a 14th century poem called Parliament of Fowls related the day with romantic love, and in the 19th century they started with sending postcards and chocolate. So Japanese people just inherited this "marketized" version of Valentine's day from the west. The same for Christmas (Coca Cola had an important part in defining the image of Santa Claus).

Yes, I think you know this but, there is another day called "White Day" in Japan.
It's on 14th of March. It's a day for boys to return gift to the girls.
I believe White day has nothing to do with Christianity. Japanese market has "invented" White Day. I think.
Valentine's day is for girls, and White Day is for boys.

Yes, that's a Japanese invention

People doesn't know how to appreciate the dimensions this song has reached until they hear the definitive version

lol. That's a nightmare version. Ladybeard used to collaborate with BabyMetal a couple of years ago.

Found it! The Sukeban Deka episode where Sayuri is kidnapped and rescued

Wow, thanks! Finally I can see the entire Onyanko Club act in drama. Sayuri's face doesn't suit to be a kidnap victim, she would suit more as a badass character. If I'm the director, I'll make her a second lead, or main lead in spin-off mini series or just the villain. Or just a Sukeban Deka 4 with Kokusho Sayuri as mc. She'd look great in that costume. lol.
Kokusho Sayuri (born: December 22, 1966) was a top idol from 1980s. She won 3rd place in a beauty contest by teenage magazine in 1984 and scouted by Sony Entertainment but she never got an official offer yet, so she was about to accept a normal job offer at a cosmetic counter in a department store. But she was invited to Onyanko Club pilot project in 1985, passed the audition and became a top idol instead. She was one of the founding members of Onyanko Club (*they started with 11 original members before kept adding new member through audtion) as Onyanko Club member number 8. Although she wasn't their real leader, behind the stage she took the "leader" role who guide younger members.

She released her first solo single in February 1, 1986 while still a member of Onyanko Club. She went full solo after "graduated" from Onyanko Club in March 1987, few months before the group disbandment. In her career, Kokusho Sayuri has released a total of 8 singles and 4 albums. Three of her songs reached #1 on Oricon chart. She released her last single in 1988 and then shifted her focus to acting. Her total song sales are 1,382,910 copies.
As an actress, Kokusho Sayuri appeared in A LOT of dramas. She has starred in a total of 165 dramas (1986 - 2023) (*some of those are one-shot dramas, but that's still a lot! ) and 12 movies (1986 - 2017).
