Good Night

Daylights’ weight has begun convulsing house tops;
The skyey cowboy is herding the clouds;
Cities fire at the night their lights’ dust shot;
The night’s more strong, very great is its power.

Those who are seeking bed -
May they all sleep tight.
And have a good night.

I’d been waiting for this time, and this time finally came;
Those holding tongues have ceased holding their tongues.
Those who are saddling their steeds have nothing to wait,
We can’t catch up with them, can’t catch up.

Those who are seeking bed -
May they all sleep tight.
And have a good night.

The neigbours drop in as they hear the rattle of hoofs;
Disturbing their dreams, it keeps them awake;
Those who have nothing to wait are now starting their routes
Those who are saved, those who are saved.

Those who are seeking bed -
May they all sleep tight.
And have a good night.

Чудесно! Спасибо!

Brat, I think your beloved Petosyan's video is more suiting with your translation rather than mine:

PS: your line #4 is godawful:
1) misleading contraction of "is" with a noun
2) grammatically incorrect "more strong"
3) yodaspeak word order
4) incorrect use of the intensifier "very great"

None of this is English language or understandable... This site has gone too far with putting nonsense on the top of ratings. I am trying to tell people, but I am let down and this is exactly the fruit of people not listening to me. ONE STAR IS TOO MUCH!

This translation was made in 2018 (edited in 2019), in the mean time author may have just forgotten about it and improved their language skills. Considering their translation rating is 4.8 I think we can call it quits and let them update this translation as soon as possible. Also because there's other 15+ translations of this song into English...

I don't think that's the case - few people actively rate translations, I'd say we have around/less than 10 new votes per day. Most of them are of 5 stars, it's not our fault if people don't give lower ratings.

My point is that many of the other translations already were way better than this one. This site needs to make sure that translations by people who are native in the language translated to comes first. You should never translate TO a language that is not your mother tongue. You can translate FROM a language you don't know well, but the target language has to be perfect.

Or it could lead to misunderstanding something? Is that where you were going with this?

Actually, if you have a C2 in any language you can translate TO that language, even if it's not your mother tongue.

C2 is the highest level of proficiency in any language. It means that you have mastered that language to a professional level and therefore, you are capable of producing native-like texts.

Ah! I never even knew that was a thing 😂. Thank you for explaining that to me ☺️

This is exactly why we unpublish translations that don't make sense. Anyway, this song has 15+ English translations. Not speaking Russian I am unable to judge the quality of each of them. Considering this one has also been given 5 stars in the past, I will have to ask for the opinion of other Russian speakers [@Iremia] [@Natoska] [@Sophia_].

Juan, I only see a typo and a couple of expressions that I would translate differently. But to give just one star to a very solid singable translation is plain wrong.
The translator is a very reputable and strong user of English language who is not a novice at all, and if someone does not understand and appreciate artistic expressions, that is not translator’s fault.

[@Brat], I think it’s time you join this discussion of your translation. Hope all is well by you.

Well, Irula, I used to think that those who didn't like wouldn't then have to dislike, and those who didn't cuss wouldn't ever have to discuss...
So... As long as silence seems to have no rightful owner, I think, I still can keep it safely.

[@Brat]As always, witty and to the point, in respectable enough (for those who doubted) English lol!

Generally speaking, I would strongly recommend getting oneself acquainted with some other works of a translator before giving them one star - it’s just a wise thing to do before getting into any sort of a diatribe.

Dear pnielsen!
You claim 3 native languages including English. I think you are exaggerating. No native English speaker would use the words "fruit of" talking about a negative result.
No native English speaker would use "the" where "a" needs to be used. But you do - in your latest translation to English - its first line is
"Like the snake"
I know that Brat's native language is not English, but I bet his English is better than yours.
There is nothing incorrect in the lines that got you angry English-wise. If they appear weird to you it's because the original song is weird (AKA poetic).

I always thought when someone said that they had gotten their A1 that they meant they had gotten their A1 steak sauce from school 😂
